Cat Following Robots (Onboard CPU / Depth Camera) RDK X3 Car vs ROSOrin vs ROSMASTER M1 vs UGV Rover vs ROSMASTER M3 vs ROSMASTER R2 vs MARS

A 2D lidar scans a single slice about 15–25 cm above the floor (est.), so a book lying flat, a sock, a cable or a low toy passes under it unseen. A depth camera sees a 3D cone in front of the robot, so ROS 2 navigation can mark those low obstacles on its map and plan around them, and the same camera measures the distance to the cat, which turns a detection into a navigation goal. Most depth cameras cannot see closer than 0.15–0.6 m, but the map keeps an obstacle once it has been seen. This page compares seven rovers from $459 to $995 that combine an on-board computer, a lidar and a depth camera in the version compared. None of these will follow a cat out of the box, so the search and following behavior has to be programmed. Ordered by the price of the version compared.
