Overview

Moya is a life-size female android from Shanghai startup DroidUp, unveiled in January 2026 and billed as the first "fully biomimetic" robot. Its silicone skin is heated to 32–36 °C, cameras sit behind the eyes, and the face produces more than 60 micro-expressions while it holds eye contact and chats through DroidUp's own LLM. Unlike most full-size humanoids it uses tendon-cable drive with the motors packed into the hips, so the limbs are light and the whole robot weighs only about 30–32 kg, wrapped in 3D-printed lattice padding. So far it works as a greeter and stage host (WAIC 2026, a Shanghai lingerie flagship store), and the catch is a price above $170,000 with no published walking speed, battery life or SDK.

DOFLaunch figures were 25 drive units in the head plus 16 body joints. DroidUp later quoted 25 head + 30 body DoF (March 2026) and more than 100 DoF overall, with 40 simulated facial muscles (June 2026).
SensorsCameras behind the eyes, 3D navigation with obstacle avoidance, pressure sensors, and (from Aug 2026) a capacitive full-body e-skin suit from Hanwei with 0.1 N sensitivity at 500 Hz
BalanceWalks on two legs with tendon-cable drive, with motors grouped at the hips pulling the limbs through high-strength tendons. DroidUp claims its gait is 92% similar to a human's. The control method is not published for Moya, though DroidUp's Xingzhe 2 walker uses MPC plus reinforcement learning.
