Overview

The Japet.W+ is a motorized lumbar belt from Japet Medical in Lille, the 2023 successor to the Japet.W and the earlier Atlas, and it is unusual in being certified as a CE Class IIa medical device while being sold to employers. Rather than supporting lifts like a back exoskeleton, its micromotors stretch the lower back to relieve pressure on the discs, so it is marketed to workers in logistics, construction, food processing, nursing and agriculture who already have low back pain, and it is used by several French firms that report fewer back-related sick days. It weighs 2 kg, goes on in 30 seconds, runs about 7 hours and has a washable textile liner so a belt can be shared across a team. Pricing is by quote, with a reported figure of about $9,000 (€7,700) including integration and a year of follow-up visits. It is far lighter than lift-assist exos like the IX BACK VOLTON but does not take weight off a load.
