Overview

The SafeLift is a soft, motorized back exosuit from Verve Motion, a Harvard Wyss Institute spinout in the Boston area, built for warehouse selectors and logistics staff who lift all day. Instead of a rigid frame it uses a backpack motor and a ribbon that tightens when the sensors see a lift, offloading up to 40% of each lift while weighing 2.7 kg and going on in under 30 seconds, with eight adjustment points to fit people from 152 to 198 cm. Verve first deployed it commercially in May 2020 and says US workers have now lifted more than 300 million pounds in it, with grocery and logistics customers such as Safeway and Ryder shown on its site and deployments of 25 to 100 suits at Albertsons, UPS and Wegmans reported elsewhere (unconfirmed). It is sold only to companies as a subscription with a data portal and support, with no list price. The rigid Apogee and IX BACK VOLTON give more absolute lift support but weigh two to three times as much.
