Overview

An open-source quadruped from NavBot, a small robotics company in Frisco, Texas. Its developer Frank Fu documents it in a full build video and written guide. The aluminum frame carries 12 DaMiao actuators on a CAN bus and a Jetson Orin Nano Super running ROS 2 and a reinforcement-learning gait. The GPL-3.0 hardware repository holds the STEP model, drawings, printable parts, BOM and BMS board. Separate repositories cover motion recording in Gazebo, policy training in Isaac Gym, and MuJoCo checks before deployment on the robot. NavBot quotes up to 97 N·m peak joint torque and a 25 kg payload, but no weight or speed.

At $4,999 it costs far less than a Unitree Go2 EDU, which also uses a Jetson Orin Nano, though the D1 ships without a camera or lidar. Like Solo 12 it publishes everything needed to build or modify the robot, but NavBot also sells it assembled. It suits labs and advanced builders who want an open RL quadruped they can repair and change. NavBot also sells the EG01, an 8-DOF desktop dog weighing 423 g, at $199.49 (sold out, October 2026).

Price and shipping

Assembled and calibrated robot with batteries and charger (NavBot store, sold out in October 2026, with "expedited production underway"). NavBot also sells D1 parts separately, such as the CNC leg set, sheet-metal body and BMS board.

Shipping: Sold out. NavBot's store showed the D1 sold out at $4,999 on an October 2026 check, saying stock is low and expedited production is underway. Its shipping policy gives 2–6 weeks of production for the D1, then ground or freight delivery from Frisco, Texas, and units are hand-assembled and tested in small batches. NavBot ↗
