Stanford University, in the San Francisco Bay Area, was founded in 1885 and welcomed its first students in 1891. It has seven schools along with research institutes. Stanford Student Robotics is an entirely student-run group whose projects range from pneumatic arms to Mars rovers, drones and vehicles.
