Overview
A wheeled two-armed robot from Tokyo's ugo Inc., unveiled at the Physical AI Summit in Tokyo on September 16, 2026. ugo calls it a semi-humanoid built from scratch for physical AI. An operator drives it with a force-feedback controller or VR gear while it records synchronized video, joint, torque and command data. That data trains AI models that then run on the robot itself. A multi-joint waist lets the torso turn and bend to reach from floor level up to high shelves. Target jobs include parts kitting, transport between work stations and assembly such as screw fastening. GK Kyoto did the industrial design, and Asratec supplied the bilateral control technology. The prototype took about six months to build, and design and manufacturing stay in Japan. In October 2026 Nova passed the prototype review of AIRoA's national general-purpose robot competition. AIRoA (the AI Robot Association) is a Japanese industry group whose members include Toyota, KDDI and NEC. It pools large amounts of robot data to train a shared AI model for general-purpose robots. Its competition, funded through METI and NEDO, is choosing Japanese-made robots for that work. ugo, Enactic, THK and Fujikoshi moved on to the improved-model phase. ugo already sells security and inspection robots. ugo Pro has two 7-axis arms on a lift and stands about 180 cm tall, and ugo mini is a 16 kg inspection robot with a telescoping camera pole. Nova is a wheeled rival to the AgiBot G2 and Galbot G1.
