Overview

The Z1 is a pair of powered knee braces that strap to the thigh and calf with a three-point mount and put a 900 W motor beside each knee, aimed at hikers who feel descents and stairs in their knees rather than their hips. It ran on Kickstarter from July to September 2025 and became one of the biggest exoskeleton campaigns to date, with Dnsys reporting about $2.5M from roughly 2,100 backers once late pledges were counted. Dnsys sells it alone or with the hip-only X1 as a hip-plus-knee bundle for $1,898, which undercuts the four-joint Hypershell Halo by several hundred dollars. It fits wearers from 150 to 196 cm and 40 to 122 kg, must be used by people who can walk and balance unaided, and is not a medical device. Rivals are the Yrobot PowrKnee and the knee module of the Ascentiz system. The catch for some buyers is that the regenerative and ski modes are reserved for the Pro, and the two-piece design means two batteries to manage. The store lists the Dual Joint and Pro in stock with delivery in 3 to 7 business days.
