Overview

The WIM S is the second-generation walking-assist robot from WIRobotics, a Korean company founded by former Samsung robotics engineers, and it takes a different approach from the hiking exoskeletons. A single motor at the front of the waist drives both legs through thin, flexible links, so the device weighs 1.6 kg, folds to the size of a small pouch and can be put on in under 30 seconds, and it is pitched at older adults, walkers and rehab patients as much as hikers. The 6 Nm peak is a fraction of the 22 Nm of the Hypershell X Series S, so it is an aid to easier and more symmetric walking rather than a power boost for climbs, and the app's gait coaching is the main selling point. The original WIM launched in April 2024 with CES 2024 Innovation Awards and had sold about 500 units in Korea by January 2025; the WIM S followed with a CES 2025 award and a built-in battery. It is sold direct in Korea with a subscription app tier, care packages and in-store trials, and through physiotherapy dealers in Europe, but the announced US launch has not produced a US store (unconfirmed).
