Overview

The IRMO M1 is a knee exoskeleton from Hangmo Robot, a Beijing spin-off of Beihang University, and its distinguishing feature is terrain sensing. Where rivals such as the Dnsys Z1 and PowrKnee react to the leg's motion, the M1 points a camera and a laser rangefinder at the ground ahead so the motors can pre-load for a step or a slope. The three models share the 1.17 kg per-leg frame and 18 Nm knee motors but differ in shell material (plastic, carbon fibre, titanium and carbon), peak power, battery life, sealing (IP54 or IP67) and the dual-camera night-vision rig on the Ultra. The Kickstarter campaign from November 2025 to January 2026 raised about $1.12M from roughly 1,229 backers (estimate), and Kickstarter named it a breakout project of early 2026. As of October 2026 the official store still shows every model as 'Launching Soon', so neither backer deliveries nor retail availability could be confirmed (unconfirmed); a reported angel round of about $14M in mid-2026 is also (unconfirmed).

A forward camera and laser ranging read the ground about 1.2 m ahead so assistance changes before the foot lands on stairs, sand, grass or slopes.
